#whatthebutlersaw Review Round-up

Michael Billington (the Guardian):  Joe Orton’s subversive wit gets buried under an avalanche of coarse acting in this grotesque cartoon of a production

Charles Spencer (the Telegraph) : Joe Orton’s 1967 comic masterpiece is given a sadistically unfunny adaptation

Mark Shenton (The Stage): director Sean Foley makes the fatal mistake of making the action get too desperate too soon, leaving the actors with nowhere to go except loud and louder.

Henry Hitchen (Evening Standard): this is a monotone, sometimes clunky production which could do with a lighter, fresher touch. It seems crazy, yes, but also a bit dated.
